Apple is finally getting ready to release iOS and iPadOS 13.4 on Tuesday, March 24th. It will introduce new Memoji stickers, Trackpad support, File Sharing, bug fixes and more.
Mouse and trackpad Support
Apple is adding trackpad support to all iPads starting with iOS 13.4. This feature wasn’t unexpected given the 2020 iPad Pro was announced with a new magic keyboard plus a trackpad. We all thought it was a nice surprise in the announcement video. But, all iPads can pair with the Magic Mouse 2 or third-party keyboards and mice right now. The new magic keyboard will be released in May this year.
After testing the new hybrid cursor, which took some adjusting to it seems to help extend the bridge between a tablet and laptop for apple. In some places it acts as a touch assist but in other places it changes to a text-highlighted/text-selected cursor. The gestures include, things like the dock, control center, home, and slide over. You can even use the cursor to type with, but not recommended. Along with this new update, Apple is supposed release new versions of Pages, Numbers, and Keynote which will add a lot support for the new cursor in the apps.
iCloud folder sharing
Back when iOS 13 was released, there was an announcement about iCloud Folder Sharing, but never showed in earlier versions of iOS 13. Apple is set to finally released it with the newest version, iOS 13.4, along with some very essential tools along side of it. Firstly, apple announced that users can share, edit, and collaborate documents while offline. “Collaboration will also become easier than ever with support for iCloud folder sharing and the ability to edit shared documents while offline.” In a newsroom article released on March 18th, 2020.
This isn’t even the tip of the iceberg, along with file sharing, Apple has also add control features and permissions that will give users more granular control. “Controls to limit access only to people you explicitly invite or grant access to anyone with the folder link” “Permissions to choose who can make changes and upload files and who can only view download files” Straight from the update notes.
Oh, it gets better from there, Pages and Keynote will get new templates along with some new abilities allowing users to “add a drop cap to make a paragraph stand out with a large, decorative first letter.”
With iOS 13.4, Apple is enabling universal purchases, thanks to the recent edition with Xcode 11.4 Beta. Meaning a developer can list an iPad app in the App Store and a Mac version in the Mac App store. A users can purchase one app and it will be purchased across all of his or her devices. (Devices including iphones, ipods, iPads, Mac and Apple TV.) Upfront apps are not the only apps that will benefit from this, apparently in-app purchases can also be shared across the two platforms.
Apple Arcade games now appear in an “Arcade Tab” for easier access. Users will be able to continue playing the games on their iPhones, iPods, iPad, Mac or Apple TV according to apple.
